Kaiapoi Then and Now - A Drone's Eye View | DJI Inspire 1 4K
Filmed on May 17, 2015 in the remains of Kaiapoi, a town north of Christchurch that was hit particularly hard in the 2010 and 2011 eaqrthquakes. This was my first outing with the DJI Inspire 1, and the results are simply stunning. The day was cool but calm with the late afternoon sun producing some beautiful lighting conditions The map in the bottom left corner throughout the video is satellite photography obtained from Google Earth Pro. It gives a wee bit of context as to what used to be on the ground beneath the drone. The images are older than usual because the last images of the area fully occupied were taken in August 2011 The Kaiapoi red zone was quite different to Christchurch's red zones. The area was a lot more beautiful and spacious. There was a surprising amount of traffic too. With the recent rain the Kaiapoi River was running quite high, with the water a muddy brown colour. As specified earlier, the drone used is a DJI Inspire 1. I flew no higher than 125m during the shoot. Editing and post-production was done on Sony Vegas Pro 13. I shot in native 4K 4096x2160 at 24fps with the ND filter on for the entire shoot. In hindsight I should have shot at 30fps and with a longer shutter time to help things appear a bit smoother. The soundtrack featured is called "Crossing Winds" by Norwegian composer Jacoo. This is because your crappy players don't support HD and therefore the video looks rubbish. Get in touch using the address on the "About" section of my channel.
