The team at AirShare are excited to tell you about some recent developments at AirShare and new services which should hopefully make flying safer and more enjoyable for the New Zealand drone flying community and visitors to the country.
Last year we surveyed the members of our AirShare operator community and received some very useful feedback about what is working well or not when you are flying your drone. From that insight, we’ve invested in new technology and capability that will enable us to provide you with:
- AirShare in uncontrolled airspace. AirShare is expanding its service to include both controlled (around airports) and uncontrolled (everywhere else) airspace. What this means in practice is that you will be able to plan and log your flights with AirShare anywhere in New Zealand to determine where you can legally fly, apply and receive flight approvals, and get awareness about other airspace users.
- Faster landowner approvals. We know a big frustration amongst our community is the length of time and process that can be involved in getting landowner approvals to fly over their properties. Fortunately, we now have the capability to automate a lot of the standard requests and provide an easier way for landowners to approve the non-standard requests faster.
Given there are a lot landowners across the country, this will take some time to have 100% coverage across the country. So we’re starting with local and regional authorities and will expand from there.
- New AirShare mobile apps. We’re launching new Android and iOS mobile apps which should make your flying lives much easier by replicating much of what you can do on the AirShare website, from your mobile phone.
From the new apps, you’ll be able to see where you are, as well as nearby UAVs and aircraft to ensure everyone is aware and safe.
Keep an eye on this page on the refreshed website to see when the apps will be downloadable from Google Play and the App Store, and add your name to the email list from that page if you would like to receive an alert when they are available.
We’ll be rolling out these new services over the coming months across New Zealand, and starting this week, we’ll be live in the greater Auckland region.
We’re also getting a bit of a facelift to mark the release of our enhanced functionality, with a new AirShare brand and refreshed website.
AirShare is also introducing an AirShare R & D programme to help shape the future of drone flight in New Zealand. If you’re a drone operator who is interested in participating in that programme, please register your interest with us here.
If you have any questions about these new developments, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to hear from you.
